i have been trying hard to get things set right but i have had no luck at all. it seems that nobody is interested apart from those few who have jioned here. we can not run a merchant fleet with so few. at the moment i am at a loss as to what to do?

i have moved to cumberland, to see what its like however i would continue here untill you see fit to be rid of me, maybe someone new could get things rolling where i have failed?

Time to nominate a Chairperson for The Merchants Guild. Empty Merchant's guild

Shane the idea is good...but we are running into the old status quo.
Most mayors have their steady traders...people with high stats where
they may travel relatively in safety as it wud take bandits with same high stats to rob or kill them.
In Gloucester, there are 2 main merchants...Lady Allikath and The Snoeman.
I am also aware that in Lichfield the 2 main merchants are Headdenz and
Lady Pygmeelia.
I am certain that it shall be very difficult for us to change the current mindset
unless we make some sort of arrangement with SAS or other military group for a merchant escort. Or...give some sort of guarantee to the town that their merchandise shall arrive safely and on time.

The only other solution that I see is having a law passed wherein all merchants that do business on behalf of a town must be registered with the merchants guild...but that wud only increase the membership but not necessarily the opportunities for other merchants of the guild.

Basically, the current situation is such so as to favor the more established merchants that have an "in" with their respective town councillors. And...
it is a small but favored self sufficient group that are in it not only for the town but also for themselves. Why wud they want a merchants guild?
It wud only dilute their powers and their income.

The only merchant that I met that had some semblance of spirit of co-operation was Headdennz from Lichfield which of course is not in Somerset.

I have given you my views of the situation.... do not despair as your idea is sound however may I suggest that we open a thread in each of the Somerset town forums with an advertising to join the merchants guild...but you must have some sort of attractive catch phrase and support from some established
merchants. Some established merchant who does not feel threatened by the influx of new merchants.

I shall continue to peruse this sight for further information...!

P.S. Travel is facilitated by being a Lord of a town....as when you are a lord you travel faster cuz you have a horse(RP'd)....normally without a horse you travel 2 spaces per day....as a lord you can travel 3..!!!
